Home to the Alexander Henry

Who We Are

The Thunder Bay Transportation Museum is dedicated to the curation, preservation and display of transportation artifacts integral to the history of Thunder Bay and its former cities of Port Arthur and Fort William.

Located along the shores of Lake Superior at the Pool 6 site in Marina Park, our museum invites you to explore the history of the Alexander Henry. This important vessel, constructed by Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co. Ltd., served as a Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaker on the Great Lakes from 1959 to 1985. In 2023 the Alexander Henry was designated a national historic site in recognition of its historical importance in Canadian Maritime history.
